Anyone with a penchant for DIY and a love for IKEA will probably know of the wildly popular website IKEAhackers.net. The founder of this brilliant website, Jules Yap, has released a book called IKEAHACKERS.NET: 25 Biggest and Best Projects.
The book is filled with clever IKEA hacks that will inspire you to think outside the box. Can a stool be turned into a lamp?
Oh yes it can!
Can a kitchen wall unit be turned into a midcentury-style cabinet?
Oh yes it absolutely can! That’s my IKEA hack right there! Squeeee!
The book is well laid out, the font is beautiful and clear to read, and the instructions are given in detail. A little note from my viewpoint: at first glance the instructions may look a tad daunting as they are very long, but don’t let that put you off. In my blog post about my DIY cabinet, I wrote my method in 4 or 5 bullets points with the view that the reader can deduce the fine details with a bit of basic DIY know-how. This book gives 23 steps for the same project. It is very detailed so as to cater for any skill level. Another minor thing to note is that the measurements are given in imperial (inches), with metric (cm) conversions shown alongside in brackets. I’ve noticed some issues with the metric conversions: there are fractions like 3/8cm and 7/8cm used sometimes which don’t make sense in metric, and one project has converted 3/4inch to 18cm instead of 18mm/1.8cm 🤦♀️. So if you’re attempting a project, read it first to understand it, work in imperial or do you own conversions if you work in metric, and use your common sense 😉.
Otherwise, the projects in the book are brimming with creativity, they are truly inspiring! Ever thought of making a pull-out bed hidden in a wardrobe? There’s a project about that in the book!
The release date is 10th August in the UK, and 15th August in USA. If you’d like to purchase it, pre-order now to receive a free ebook with 5 bonus hacks. For more information about this offer, check out the sneak peek feature on IKEAhackers.net.
Happy hacking! 🙂
